description:
Sikaflex®-591 is a sealer based on Silanic Ending Polymers (STP) technology from Sika. With its excellent resistance to harsh weather conditions marine can be used for a wide range of applications. Sikaflex®-591 exceeds common environmental and safety standards, and establishes a new reference point from the ecological point of view. Sikaflex®-591 meets low flame propagation standards (FTP code, part 5) established by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
BENEFITS:
Sikaflex®-591 hardens by reaction with atmospheric moisture. At low temperatures the water content in the air is generally lower and the hardening reaction proceeds slower (see diagram 1).

Sikaflex®-591 is generally water resistant, sea water, diluted solutions of acids and bases; resistant in the short term to fuels, mineral oils, fats and vegetable oils and animals; not resistant to organic acids, alcohol, caustic concentrated solutions and mineral acids or solvents.
The surfaces must be clean, dry and devoid of fat, oil and dust.
The surface treatment depends on the specific nature of the substrates and is essential for long lasting bonding. Tips for surface preparation can be found in the current edition of the appropriate Sika® Table Pre-treatments. It should be considered that these suggestions are based on experience and must be verified with tests on original media.
Sikaflex®-591 can be worked between 5 °C and 40 °C, but changes in reactivity and application properties must be taken into account. The optimum temperature for substrates and sealing is between 15 °C and 25 °C. Sikaflex®-591 can be worked with piston extrusion guns, manual, pneumatic or electrical.
In case Sikaflex®-591 can get in touch with a polyurethane make sure that these products are hardened or wait at least 24 hours before sealing.
Brushing and finishing must be performed within the time of formation of the sealing skin. The use of Sika® Tooling Agent N is recommended. Other finishing agents must be tested to verify their suitability and compatibility before use.
Unhardened Sikaflex®-591 can be removed from tools and equipment with Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once hardened, the material can only be removed mechanically. Hands and exposed skin should be washed immediately using hand wipes such as Sika® Cleaner-350H, or suitable industrial washbasins and water. Do not use solvents on the skin!
