For long-lasting bonding with Sikaflex®-298 FC, it is important that the surfaces are clean, dry and free of grease, oil and dust. Surface treatment depends on the specific nature of substrates and can be consulted in the appropriate Sika® Table Pre-treatments. It is recommended to check the tips with tests on original media.
Sikaflex®-298 FC can be worked between 10 °C and 35 °C, but the optimum temperature for substrates and adhesive is between 15 °C and 25 °C. The adhesive is applied on large surfaces with a toothed spatula, using about 1.2 l per m2. If the substrates to be glued are waterproof to moisture or a higher hardening speed is required, the adhesive can be slightly sprayed with nebulized water just before gluing.
Air should be avoided during the union of the parts or the filling of the joints. It is recommended to apply a strong pressure when joining the components and keeping the surfaces to be glued under pressure for at least 3 hours until the adhesive has reached sufficient resistance. Open time is significantly shorter with warm and humid climate, so parts must always be installed within open time. Never paste the surfaces if the adhesive has formed the skin.
To remove Sikaflex®-298 FC unhardened, you can use Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once hardened, the material can only be removed mechanically. It is recommended to immediately wash hands and skin exposed with hand cleaning wipes such as Sika® Cleaner-350H or suitable industrial washbasins and water. Do not use solvents on the skin!
