Sikaflex®-591 is a sealing agent based on Silanic Ending Polymers (STP) technology from Sika. With its excellent resistance to harsh weather conditions marine can be used for a wide range of applications. Sikaflex®-591 exceeds common environmental and safety standards, and establishes a new reference point from the ecological point of view. Sikaflex®-591 meets low flame propagation standards (FTP code, part 5) established by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

Uses:

Sikaflex®-591 is a multipurpose sealant designed for nautical applications. It is suitable for elastic and vibration-resistant bonding, and for a wide range of indoor and outdoor sealing applications. Sikaflex®-591 adheres well to substrates commonly used in the naval industry. Sikaflex®-591 is not suitable for applications with Teak wood and plastic that are subject to stress cracking (e.g. PMMA, PC, etc.). This product is only suitable for experienced professional users. To ensure adhesion and compatibility of materials, you must perform tests with substrates in real conditions.

Surface preparation:

The surfaces must be clean, dry and devoid of fat, oil and dust.

The surface treatment depends on the specific nature of the substrates and is essential for long lasting bonding. Tips for surface preparation can be found in the current edition of the appropriate Sika® Table Pre-treatments. It should be considered that these suggestions are based on experience and must be verified with tests on original media.

Application:

Sikaflex®-591 can be worked between 5 °C and 40 °C, but changes in reactivity and application properties must be taken into account. The optimum temperature for substrates and sealing is between 15 °C and 25 °C. Sikaflex®-591 can be worked with piston extrusion guns, manual, pneumatic or electrical.

In case Sikaflex®-591 can get in touch with a polyurethane make sure that these products are hardened or wait at least 24 hours before sealing.
