description:

Sika® Primer-209 D is a solvent-based black primer, which reacts with moisture and forms a thin layer. This layer acts as a link between substrates and adhesives. Sika® Primer-209 D is specifically formulated to treat surfaces to be glued before the application of single-component Sika polyurethanes. This primer could provide excellent adhesion without prior activation steps on certain plastic substrates.

Uses

Sika® Primer-209 D is used to improve adhesion on many plastics and painted surfaces such as GRP, epoxy resins, PVC, ABS, PMMA, PC, PS and acrylics, alkyds/melamine, powder paints and baked paints. Due to the wide variety of plastics, it is mandatory to perform preliminary tests on original substrates in production conditions. Ask for advice from the manufacturer and test the original substrates before using Sika® Primer-209 D on materials subject to stress cracking. This product is only suitable for experienced professional users. To ensure adhesion and compatibility of materials, you must perform tests with substrates in real conditions.

Information for the Application

APPLICATION METHOD

The surfaces must be clean, dry and devoid of grease, oil, dust and contaminants.

Adhesion on substrates can be improved by adding and/or combining pre-treatment processes such as abrasion, cleaning and activation.

Application

Shake Sika® Primer-209 very carefully D until the mixing ball moves freely. Continue to shake for another minute and apply a thin but covering layer through brush, felt or sponge.

The ideal application and surface temperature is between 15 °C and 25 °C.

Sika® Primer-209 D must be applied only once. We must be careful to ensure that this single application gives a sufficiently dense coverage. Consumption and method of application depend on the specific nature of substrates. Securely shut down the container immediately after each use.
